Syracuse, NY – Nearly 25% of adults in the city of Syracuse have overdue medical bills on their credit records, by far the highest rate among major cities in New York state, according to a new study by a Washington. D.C.-based think tank.

Syracuse’s estimated rate of 24.1% with medical debt is nearly 2 times higher than any of its Thruway counterparts. Buffalo came in second among big cities at 12.8% with medical debt, according to the Urban Institute. Rochester scored the best among big Upstate cities, with 5.6% of its residents in medical debt.
