Officers responded shortly before 8 p.m. to a call for shots fired in the 100 block of Cheney Street and saw several casings, police said. In nearby Lower Onondaga Park, they found Karon, who had been shot in the back, police said.
He was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
Karon was a student at OnTECH Charter School, according to a Facebook post from the school. The post referred to Karon as “beloved.”
The school was taking “a day of rest,” the post said.
Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call (315) 442-5222.
