These teams both head to the bowl with 6-6 records. South Alabama is seeking its first-ever bowl win to cap off a shaky finish to the season, where the Jaguars won just two of their last five games, and dropped their most recent game 52-44 to Texas State. They’ll be playing at their home stadium in Saturday’s game.
Eastern Michigan will bring its two-time All-MAC first-team punter, Mitchell Tomasek, to bear against the Jaguars. Tomasek averaged 45.3 yards and is the only FBS punter with two 70+ yard punts this season. The Eagles salvaged a losing record to win their final two games of the season and become bowl eligible with a 24-11 win over Buffalo.
This is the first meeting between Eastern Michigan and South Alabama, and a big opportunity for both teams to add a bowl title to their legacies. The Jaguars are 0-3 across all bowl appearances, and the Eagles are just 2-4.
