Syracuse, N.Y. — Hours before police swarmed a street on Syracuse’s South Side in 2021, hundreds of people were attending a “crazy” block party that got out of control and ended in a fatal shooting.

On the night of June 4 into the early morning of June 5, 2021, people gathered for a Friday night party in the 200 block of West Lafayette Avenue. Around 4:30 a.m., Bobby Fort Jr., 31, was fatally shot and surrounded by loved ones crying out for help.
