Fayetteville, N.Y. – After 34 years, Decker’s Wine & Spirits in Fayetteville is closing at the end of the year.

“It’s time,” said Dana Decker, who runs the small retail shop at 112 Brooklea Drive by himself. He plans to retire.

Decker, who started in the wine business 50 years ago, said the store’s last day will be Dec. 31.

At 73, Decker said he wants to travel, spend time with his new grandchild and continue to enjoy fine wines.

His immediate plan, he told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard, is to travel to Italy where he plans to rent a short-term vacation home for six months. Decker said he hopes to do that every year, and while there he plans to enjoy the region’s wines.

“I love the wine business and I’ll miss it and all my customers,” Decker said. “But there are still a lot of things I want to do.”

His brother, Gary, runs Vinomania in Syracuse.
