Canadian man traveled 660 miles by train, plane to Upstate NY to have sex with 10-year-old, feds say

Albany, N.Y. — A Canadian man was sentenced to 12 years in prison in Albany federal court Friday after attempting to have sex with a 10-year-old in Rensselaer County, federal prosecutors said.

Jonathan Woodworth, 45, of Riverside-Albert, New Brunswick, traveled 660 miles by plane and train to Rensselaer County last September to meet the girl, prosecutors for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York said in a news release Saturday.

Woodworth was arrested as he left the train station, prosecutors said.

From June to September, he was exchanging explicit messages online to a law enforcement officer he thought was the girl’s mother, investigators said in a criminal complaint.
