UPDATE: Lady Bird has been adopted!

Lady Bird is a Walker Treeing Coonhound mix. This breed is an American original and was developed during the Colonial Era. Nicknamed “the People’s Choice,” they’re hunting dogs and were bred to chase raccoons up trees and bark and bay until the hunter caught up to them.

Hounds are smart, independent and follow their nose, so they have a tendency to wind up as strays, which is how Lady Bird came to the shelter.

She is about 7 years old, but she’s spry and energetic. She loves to go on walks, explore, and especially loves to sniff. She’s sweet and gentle and would make a fine family dog. She also has that beautiful hound bark!

She loves to cuddle but she’s no couch potato. If you’re prepared to give her the exercise and attention that she needs, Lady Bird would make a wonderful friend.
