You may not know his name, but you probably know David Haas by his Instagram account, @SyracuseHistory, where he has been celebrating the glorious past and gritty present of “the little city that could” since 2013.
Local history is Haas’s passion project. His day job is executive director of Sarah’s Guest House, providing lodging, transportation, meals and comfort to medical patients and their families for a suggested donation of $25 a day. (Or nothing, if guests can’t afford to pay.) The nonprofit has a staff of five and relies on hundreds of volunteers to make guests feel at home in a strange city.
