Syracuse, N.Y. -- A vacant, boarded-up home was badly damaged Sunday morning after flames tore through the first floor of the house.

Around 5:32 a.m., firefighters responded to a possible house fire at the corner of Gertrude Street and Fountain Street on the city’s Northeast Side, said District Chief Matt Craner, a spokesperson for the Syracuse Fire Department.
