An innovative project near Syracuse’s downtown pivots for more low-income renters: The team behind the planned Salina 1st project south of downtown is looking at more than doubling the number of apartments in the project to help address Syracuse’s housing shortage. The mixed-use project at 1081 S. Salina St. was originally planned to have 24 one- and two-bedroom apartments, along with 23,000 square feet of light industrial and office space. Now the development team is considering shrinking the industrial and office space and adding more apartments.

Construction to close lane on I-81 north in Syracuse for a year: Starting later this week, the stretch of Interstate 81 north from Interstate 481 to East Glen Avenue in Syracuse will be reduced to one lane for construction, according to the New York State Department of Transportation. New SU football coach lands first commitments from recruits: Fran Brown has landed his first commitments as Syracuse football’s head coach on Sunday.
