Syracuse, N.Y. -- A person was rescued from an apartment building Wednesday after fire and smoke filled a hallway leading to the exit.

Around 6:41 a.m., firefighters responded to an apartment building at 111 Smith Lane for a report of a structure fire, said Deputy Fire Chief Nick Pagano, a Syracuse Fire Department spokesperson.
