Gov. Kathy Hochul will deliver her 2024 State of the State address at 1 p.m. today at the New York State Capitol in Albany.
You can watch Hochul’s speech live on the governor’s website as she outlines her priorities for the new year. Anyone can also sign up to virtually attend the address inside the state Assembly chamber.
Hochul, the first woman to be elected governor of New York, will be making her third State of the State address since she filled the unexpired term of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2021. She was elected to a full term in 2022.
Over the past week, Hochul has outlined some of her key priorities for the year ahead, including a consumer protection and affordability agenda and a proposal to help school children improve reading proficiency.
The governor also wants to tackle child poverty, setting aside $50 million to come up with innovative programs in Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo. All three Upstate cities rank among the 10 cities with the highest poverty rates in the nation.
