The Jacksonville State Gamecocks (8-4) look to cap off a stellar first season as an FBS member with a bowl win. Jacksonville State has become the first team since 1997 to reach a bowl in its first season in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Their opponents, Louisiana (6-6), have reached a bowl game for the fifth straight season, and will be playing close to home.
Louisiana is making its seventh appearance in New Orleans, and hold the bowl’s record with five victories. But they’ll enter as a 3-point underdog as they square off with the might of Jacksonville State’s defensive line, which ranks 15th nationally in yards per play allowed with 4.88.
It will be the final game for the Gamecocks’ seventh-year quarterback Zion Webb. The Ragin’ Cajuns, meanwhile, have played Zeon Chriss, Chandler Fields, and Ben Wooldridge at different times this season.
