Man dies after car goes off Interstate 690 in Syracuse, lands upside down in water

Syracuse, N.Y. — A 44-year-old man died Monday after his vehicle went off Interstate 690 East, landed upside down in water, police said.

The man — Udayabhanu Anjanappilly, of Cohoes near Albany — was driving east on the highway when the vehicle crashed into a ditch, Lt. Matthew Malinowski, a Syracuse police spokesperson, said Tuesday.

The crash was reported shortly before 5 a.m. near Midler Avenue. It was raining heavily at the time.
