Man in critical condition after car submerged in water after Interstate 690 East crash, police say

Syracuse, N.Y. -- A man is in critical condition Monday after his car went off a highway and landed upside down submerged in water in Syracuse, police said.

Just after 4:45 a.m., the man was driving east on Interstate 690 when the vehicle went off the road, said Lt. Matthew Malinowski, a Syracuse police spokesperson. The vehicle was in three feet of water, he said.

The man was taken to Upstate University Hospital and is in critical condition, Malinowski said Monday night.
