FORT MYERS, FL -- Police in Florida are looking for a man who went pond fishing last week inside of a Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World in search of a rare catch. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says the unidentified suspect entered the Fort Myers store last Wednesday with a fishing net and went to the pond inside the store.

The man then used the net to capture a live tarpon and pulled it from the water before he walked out of the store. The man fled from the scene and police are now asking for the public’s help in finding him. A video captured by someone inside the store and shared by police shows the man and the tarpon passing by shortly after the fish was pulled from the water.

Tarpon are known as a very difficult fish to catch and in Florida they are considered a catch and release only fish.

While the LCSO is actively searching for the suspect, the office had a little fun in asking for help saying the case would “o-fish-ially catch your eye” and anyone with information about the suspect can “drop a line” to police. Police and wildlife organizations in Florida are working to find the man and retrieve the fish.
