Manlius rejects Taco Bell Cantina, but it wasn’t because beer was on the menu: A proposed Taco Bell Cantina in the village of Manlius is off the table because it came with a drive-thru window. A zone change allowing a drive-thru was rejected by the Manlius Village Board, with opponents saying it would have required “an exception to past practice.” The proposed restaurant would have replaced the former Manlius village fire station on Stickley Drive with offerings like beer, frozen alcoholic drinks and featured entertainment.

Rep. Brandon Williams’ home in Cayuga County ‘swatted’ on Christmas: The Central New York home of U.S. Rep. Brandon Williams was “swatted” on Christmas, police said. State troopers and Cayuga County sheriff’s deputies responded to a false report of a shooting around 2 p.m. Monday to the first-term representative’s home in Sennett, Cayuga County. “Swatting” happens when someone makes a false report of a crime in progress to draw law enforcement to a specific location.

Appeals court upholds dismissal of lawsuit by Syracuse officer alleging ‘Jim Crow culture’: A lawsuit by a Syracuse police officer that claimed the department cultivated a “Jim Crow” racist culture has been rejected a second time. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit issued a ruling Tuesday upholding a lower federal judge’s dismissal of Brandon Hanks’ lawsuit that claimed he was discriminated against by the Syracuse Police Department.

A match on ‘The Bachelor?’ Syracuse University alumna Chandler Dewgard is one of 32 contestants competing for Joey Graziadei’s heart on season 28 of “The Bachelor.” The 2021 graduate of SU’s Newhouse School is a graphic 24-year-old graphic designer from New York City and “as empathetic and driven as she is beautiful.” Graziadei, 28, is a teaching tennis pro from Pennsylvania who was a finalist on season 20 of “The Bachelorette” with Charity Lawson. The new season of “The Bachelor” premieres next month.

2 key Syracuse football players returning next season: New Syracuse football coach Fran Brown is getting help from two key players returning next season. Safety and captain Justin Barron announced Tuesday he’ll play a fifth season at SU, providing excellent tackling and a physical presence in the secondary. Star receiver Oronde Gadsden II, who missed most of the 2023 season due to injury, also said he’ll be back.
