NFL script writers are sadists: What they’re saying following Bills’ playoff loss to Chiefs

Josh Allen threw for one touchdown and ran for two more, but the Buffalo Bills still fell short to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.

With the ball in their hands down three, Allen and the Bills offense stalled out late. Having to settle for a 44-yard field goal, Buffalo turned to Tyler Bass. Despite a fine snap and hold, the kick was not close and the fan base had to hear the two words that they hate most.

Wide right.

Two Isaiah Pacheco runs later and it was all over with the Chiefs winning 27-24.

Bass will take a lot of heat for the loss, but he was not the only problem for Buffalo in the divisional round. Sean McDermott and the Bills defense had few answers for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense. Buffalo’s defense was dealing with their fair share of injuries, but the team’s lack of answers and adjustments were nothing short of frustrating.

Special teams continued to be a mess for Buffalo. In addition to Bass’ missed field goal, Buffalo went for a fake punt and failed to move the chains despite Kansas City only having 10-men on the field on the play. Buffalo also leaned on Sam Martin to punt despite him struggling with an injury suffered one week ago.

Offensively, some missed catches loomed large. Trent Sherfield failed to make catches downfield despite Josh Allen delivering accurate passes. The same could be said for Stefon Diggs. The Bills’ top receiver let a long pass go right through his hands.

Buffalo’s offseason starts now and the roster is likely to get overhauled due to cap restraints. Following their heartbreaking loss, here is what the media was saying about Buffalo.
