To the Editor:

Gov. Kathy Hochul wants New Yorkers to pay $2.4 billion to fix the immigration crisis our state is facing — a crisis of her and her party’s making. Democrats preached the gospel of sanctuary. They attacked those who opposed sanctuary as xenophobic. They refused debate and boasted of their virtuous position. They never once gave thought to what sanctuary would require or cost. Never a thought of the actual hardships the migrants and taxpayers would face. Never considered the actual means needed to grant sanctuary. They were virtuous in thought, damn the consequences.

New Yorkers, people already burdened with a $600 million bill for a stadium in Hochul’s backyard, now have to come up with another $2.4 billion to temporarily bail out her sanctuary policy. I say temporary because until the policy changes and the migrants are deported, we will continue to pay. And the more we pay the more will come.. This circle needs to be broken and throwing money will not break it, it will strengthen it.

America needs immigrants and immigrants need America. It’s always been that way and will always be that way. But there has to be a plan and the false god of sanctuary isn’t it. It’s time to stop sanctuary and have real plan.
