Cazenovia, N.Y. -- Three months after Cazenovia College held its last-ever commencement, the Cazenovia town assessor ripped away its tax-exempt status, and the property tax bills started to roll in.
Assessor Brian Fitts said the college lost its tax exemption as soon as it shut its doors to students this summer, ending nearly 200 years of providing a liberal arts education in this idyllic Central New York village 20 miles southeast of Syracuse.
