Through several exclusive interviews, the documentary outlines how Carol spent the hours leading up to her murder, how her family was affected by the monstrous crime, how first responders bungled the scene, challenges police face in the investigation, and how DNA technology could break open the case. Three investigators believe they know the man who killed Carol. He’s still out there. But they haven’t been able to prove it. Watch the “Firecracker” documentary here.

Shuttered Cazenovia College fights back as tax bills start to roll in: Three months after Cazenovia College held its last-ever commencement, the Cazenovia town assessor ripped away its tax-exempt status, and the property tax bills — totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars — started to roll in. Assessor Brian Fitts said the college lost its tax exemption as soon as it shut its doors to students this summer. But the private college isn’t giving up its tax-exempt status without a fight.

Syracuse nears deal to relocate police, fire headquarters: City of Syracuse officials are ready to move forward with plans to take police and fire department headquarters out of downtown. Syracuse Common Councilors will vote later this month on a request from Mayor Ben Walsh to finalize a lease agreement with a developer that will convert a vacant six-story factory on the city’s west side into a new public safety building.

City faces another lawsuit challenging crackdown on “illicit” marijuana sellers: Another lawsuit has been filed accusing the city of Syracuse of illegally shutting down a retail shop after a state and local crackdown on illicit sales of marijuana in the city in September.

Looking ahead

Pink show will be a first for Dome: When rock star Pink performs at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse next year, she’ll be just the eighth woman to perform a headlining act on the Dome stage. And she’ll be the first female solo headliner at a full Dome show that isn’t an SU Block Party.

Grand marshals named for St. Patrick’s Parade: This has the makings of an ever-growing tale best told over a pint of Guinness. But it’s basically true: Two guys walk into an Irish bar in Syracuse and walk out 30 years later as grand marshals of our St. Patrick’s parade.

Penn State’s Khalil Ahmad to return to Syracuse in lead recruiting role: Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown’s staff is slowly starting to take shape. Brown is hiring Khalil Ahmad -- who spent a year on Dino Babers’ staff at SU before leaving for a job at Penn State — as his executive director of personnel and recruiting, according to a report.

Mintz becoming more of an outside threat: Judah Mintz made a career-high five shots from the 3-point line Tuesday night. It’s likely that the Big Red, like most teams, was more concerned about Mintz’s ability to drive the lane, draw fouls and get to the free throw line. Mintz has steadily improved as a 3-point shooter, though.
