In its 11th season, Symphoria’s programming focus is on “Music to Make You Feel Good.” Music Director Lawrence Loh, who conducts all the Masterworks series concerts as well as many others in the lineup, said people will hear much of their favorite music from the established canon as well as significant works of contemporary and under-represented composers.

So it is that the first Masterworks concert will build to a second half comprised of one of the most often requested symphonic works: Maurice Ravel’s orchestration of Modest Mussorgsky’s 10-movement piano cycle, “Pictures at an Exhibition.” Mussorgsky composed the piano work after he and other Moscow artists organized a tribute to their friend Viktor Hartmann, who died of an aneurism at age 39.
