Syracuse, N.Y. — A Syracuse man charged with murder in the death of a 52-year-old man believes he acted in self-defense, his attorney said.

Christopher Bieling, 47, is accused of fatally stabbing David Reynolds, 52, of Syracuse, during an altercation in the 200 block of Reed Avenue in Syracuse’s Strathmore neighborhood on Oct. 3, according to an indictment filed in Onondaga County Court.

Bieling appeared in court Thursday to be arraigned on the indictment. Reynolds’ family wore shirts with the 52-year-old’s face on them and cried as Beiling was brought before the judge.
