Syracuse native Post Malone has been tapped to perform at the 2024 Super Bowl.
Malone will perform “America the Beautiful” during the pre-game ceremonies for Super Bowl LVIII, the NFL announced Thursday. The football championship game will air live on CBS from Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 11.
Variety reports performers joining Malone include country star Reba McEntire, who will sing the national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Grammy-winning singer-actress Andra Day will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
Usher will headline the Super Bowl halftime show, sponsored by Apple Music and co-directed by Jay-Z. Usher is an R&B singer known for hits like “OMG,” “You Make Me Wanna,” “DJ Got Us Falling in Love,” “U Remind Me,” and “Nice & Slow”; this year marks the 20th anniversary of his best-selling album, “Confessions,” which featured “Burn,” “Caught Up,” “My Boo” (with Alicia Keys) and the No. 1 smash “Yeah!” (feat. Ludacris and Lil Jon).
According to Variety, all of the music performances will also feature American Sign Language (ASL) interpretations for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. “Coda” actor Daniel Durant will sign the national anthem, Anjel Piñero will sign “America the Beautiful;” and Shaheem Sanchez will sign “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and the halftime show.
Malone is a Grammy-nominated singer and rapper known for hits like “Rockstar,” “White Iverson,” “Psycho,” “Circles,” “Better Now,” “Sunflower” and “I Like You (A Happier Song).” Posty has also acted in movies like “Spenser Confidential” and “Wrath of Man,” helped launch a professional beer pong league, has his own rosé wine (Maison No. 9) and clothing brand (Trading Post Apparel), and partnered with major brands like Bud Light, Crocs, and Magic: The Gathering.
Malone, who was born Austin Richard Post in Syracuse, lived in the Central New York area until he was 10, when his family moved to Texas. He currently lives in Utah, and his family still owns a home in Baldwinsville.
More than 100 million people are expected to watch Super Bowl, which will also be simulcast on Nickelodeon (with commentary by Syracuse native Tom Kenny as the voice of “SpongeBob SquarePants”). Several NFL players with Syracuse ties are still in the playoffs and could also reach the Super Bowl.
