When artistic team members produce an opera from the canon, they rely on established practice and creative interpretation. But, when the work they present to the public is fresh and the composer and librettist are accessible, they can reach out to them for guidance as components of the production come together before a performance.

Connecting with the composer has been part of the preparation for Marcello Cormio, who will conduct “I Am A Dreamer Who No Longer Dreams” for Syracuse Opera Friday, Oct. 20, and Sunday, Oct. 22.
