Syracuse, N.Y. — A service was held Thursday to remember the 270 people – 35 of whom were Syracuse students – who died in the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 on December 21, 1988 over Lockerbie, Scotland. The SU students were heading home from studying abroad when their New York-bound flight from London was destroyed by a bomb packed into a suitcase.

On Thursday, the sun illuminated the slow and cold walk from Hendricks Chapel to the Wall of Remembrance where University personnel and family members huddled together in front of the Hall of Languages honoring those lost.
