Time’s 2023 Person of the Year revealed

It’s she, hi, she’s the Person of the Year. To no one’s surprise, Taylor Swift has been named Time’s 2023 Person of the Year after an epic year that included the sold-out “The Eras Tour,” the biggest concert movie of all time, re-released versions of her albums, and a high-profile romance with Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce. NBC reports it’s the first entertainer to receive the TPOY honor solo. U2′s Bono was part of a group of philanthropists recognized in 2005 as “The Good Samaritans” and Swift was among the “Silence Breakers” in 2017.

Time has named a “Person of the Year” (previously Man of the Year) for nearly 100 years, recognizing an individual or group that has had “the greatest influence on the events of the year—for better or worse.” A wide range of figures have been selected, including Adolf Hitler, John F. Kennedy, The Computer, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Elon Musk, the #MeToo movement, Martin Luther King Jr. and Pope Francis.

‘DWTS’ winner

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” star Xochitl Gomez is the new “Dancing with the Stars” winner. The Marvel actress and Val Chmerkovskiy received the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy on Tuesday’s season 32 finale of “DWTS,” beating out runners up Jason Mraz and Daniella Karagach. “We’ve had so much love, from everyone, to the crew and to the cast and then people outside of just fans, you know? It’s just been so much love,” Gomez told ET. “And that is what made me really love this whole experience.”

Wings co-founder dies

Billboard reports Denny Laine, co-founder of Wings and The Moody Blues, is dead at age 79. Laine died Tuesday morning, his wife Elizabeth Hines announced on Facebook. He had health problems in recent years, including a serious bout with Covid-19 and an aggressive Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). “I was at his bedside, holding his hand as I played his favorite Christmas songs for him,” Hines said. “All he wanted was to be home with me and his pet kitty, Charley, playing his gypsy guitar. Denny was so very thankful to all of you who sent him so much love, support and the many kind words during these past few months of his health crisis-it brought him to tears. I thank you all for sending both of us love and support.” The English singer, songwriter and guitarist co-founded The Moody Blues in 1964, kicking off a legendary career that included the Electric String Band, Ginger Baker’s Air Force and Paul McCartney’s Wings. Laine was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Moody Blues in 2018.
