Vincent Salamone Jr., 65, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023.

Born in Canastota where he was a lifelong resident, he was a graduate of Canastota High School, attended Morrisville State College and Tompkins County Community College.

He worked for Basilio-Buda sausage, became the owner in 1988 and as the face of the family business kept the tradition going, according to his obituary.

He was a Little League coach starting while still in high school and coached for 37 years in girls basketball, football, softball, and baseball, according to his obituary. He was also “The Voice of Canastota Red Raider football” for more than 40 years and also found time to work as an umpire for the Mohawk Association for 25 years.

He was also a season ticket holder for Syracuse University football, basketball, and lacrosse since before the Dome opened. He frequently took road trips to follow the Orange, according to his obituary.

Calling hours will be 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, in St. Agatha’s Church in Canastota followed by a Mass celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Ballard. After the Mass, sausage sandwiches will be served.
