Henry William Propp, 90, died on January 3 surrounded by his family.

According to his obituary, Propp was born and raised in Chicago.

At 17, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and made a career in the service, eventually retiring as a master sergeant in 1971.

During his time in the Air Force, Propp was assigned to Morocco, Greenland, Johnson Island in the Pacific, Korea, and across the United States before being sent to Hancock Air Force Base in Syracuse.

After the Air Force, he worked for General Motors in Salina and then Miller Brewery in Fulton before running his own business as a consulting engineer in industrial maintenance.

He retired in 2003.

He spent his retirement years researching his family history and eventually published an extensive, and in-depth book on the Propp family genealogical tree, conducting some of his research in Lithuania, England, and Israel.

Propp was a Free Mason, enjoyed boxing, collected oriental rugs, stamps, and repairing and collecting antique clocks.

More than anything though he loved spending time with his family who will “profoundly” miss him.

He is survived by Patricia Propp, his wife of 69 years; his daughters, Jody Fundalinski (Tad) and Cindy Winslow (David); his sons, Theodore Propp (Theresa) and David Propp (Carol); his seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Services will be private.

He will be buried with full military honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt.
