‘Top Gun 3′ in the works; Tom Cruise may also do ‘Edge of Tomorrow 2′

It’s a big week for Syracuse-born actor Tom Cruise, who signed a new deal with Warner Bros. to develop and produce original and franchise films. The Hollywood Reporter reports a sequel to “Edge of Tomorrow” (also known as “Live. Die. Repeat”) is at the top of WB’s wishlist, with Cruise potentially reprising his role for director Doug Liman. At the same time, Variety reports “Top Gun 3″ is in the works after the huge success of “Top Gun: Maverick.” Paramount has tapped “Maverick” co-writer Ehren Kruger to script a new “Top Gun” sequel that could bring back Cruise, Miles Teller and Glen Powell, plus director Joe Kosinski.

THR reports Cruise’s new deal with Warner Bros. is not exclusive, allowing him to keep working with Paramount (the home of “Mission: Impossible”) and Universal, where he’s working on a film that will shoot at the International Space Station. But there’s also potential for synergy as Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly discussed a possible merger last month.
