WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Tops Friendly Markets has reopened 12 former Grand Union stores in eastern and northern New York as Tops locations.

The stores are in Saratoga, Warren, Franklin, Essex, Clinton and Fulton counties. The markets also got overhauls and upgrades along with the rebrandings.

The Grand Union locations were part of a 21-store acquisition Tops announced in July 2012.

Based in Williamsville, Tops has been active in the Syracuse area lately. The company acquired Big M supermarkets in Boonville, Watertown, Sandy Creek, Adams, Elbridge, Mexico and Jordan earlier this year.

Tops has 154 company-owned stores and five franchise locations under the Tops, Grand Union and Bryant's brands.
