Gooey cakes and die-cut pasta: Francesca’s Bakehouse opened this month in what has been described as the “skinniest” building in Syracuse. The building measures 13.9 feet between the outer walls, and at one point the inside space is just a hair over eight feet. Take a look inside. (Katrina Tulloch photo)

Vandals and thieves are wrecking historic Syracuse convent slated for $100 million housing project: An ambitious $100 million plan to turn a former Syracuse convent and college campus into low-income senior housing has become a race to save the historic site from vandals and thieves. Hoodlums have ripped out light fixtures, doors, banisters, stained glass windows, parts of a church organ, and copper piping and wiring. The destruction is not threatening to stop redevelopment plans, which would create the largest affordable housing complex in Syracuse in recent memory, but it is adding to the project’s costs.

Transformation of Syracuse bakery to include studio apartments with rents below $1,000: A plan to turn a former Syracuse bread factory into apartments could get under way next year. The $17 million project is expected to be completed by the spring of 2026 and feature affordable housing, including studio apartments that could start at around $700 to $800. “There’s a lot of excitement around this and the need for this type of space,” said Evans.

Syracuse basketball coach Adrian Autry says productive bench is ‘what makes this team’: Adrian Autry approached his first year as Syracuse’s head basketball coach intending to play more man-to-man defense and at a faster pace. In order to accomplish both of those goals, Autry knew he needed to get consistent play from his bench. Syracuse (9-3 overall, 0-1 ACC) has lived up to the challenge as SU’s backups have combined to score 26 or more points in six of Syracuse’s first 12 games. “That’s what makes this team,’’ Autry said of SU’s depth. “If it’s going to be really, really (good), it’s going to be because we play nine or 10 guys.’’
