Casey Rogers’ college football journey is coming to an end, but a new one is about to begin.
Rogers, the former Westhill High School football star now playing at the University of Oregon, proposed to his longtime girlfriend on the field after his team’s win over Oregon State on Friday night.
Rogers’ girlfriend, former Solvay softball star Maya Martineau, said yes.
“You know how much I love you, right?” Rogers asked at the 50-yard line. “Maya, will you marry me?”
In the video, the number “315″ is visible on his right bicep, an homage to his Central New York roots. The “8″ on his arm is a tribute to former Westhill teammate Reed Derrenbacher, who died in 2014.
Rogers is the son of former Syracuse University lacrosse player and assistant coach Lelan Rogers.
Martineau followed Rogers on his college football journey from his first stop at Nebraska -- both of them graduated from the school -- to his current stop in Oregon. He will have at least two more games with the Ducks: The Pac-12 championship game and then a bowl game or a semifinal game in the College Football Playoff. From there, the NFL could come calling.
Rogers, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound defensive tackle at Oregon, made news earlier this season when he carried a fake punt 18 yards for a first down against Colorado and coach Deion Sanders.
On Friday, right before he pumped his fist and was mobbed by teammates, he whispered to Martineau: “Forever. And ever and ever.”
