Update 6:15 a.m. Monday: Cicero police have identified the woman who died in a Christmas Eve house fire.

Cicero, N.Y. — A woman died late Sunday night after her Cicero home caught fire on Christmas Eve, officials said.

Mary A. Howard, 100, was pronounced dead as a result of the fire, according to Cicero police chief Steve Rotunno. She was the sole resident of the home at 5657 Central Ave.

The Cicero Police Department and Onondaga County fire investigators are currently investigating the fire. The fire does not appear to be suspicious, Rotunno said in a news release issued at 2:30 a.m. Monday.

The fire was reported shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from underneath the roof of the home when they arrived, according to Cicero Deputy Fire Chief Jim Perrin.

Officials said firefighters were told someone was in the single-story ranch house; they located the woman in a rear bedroom.

After getting her out of the home, firefighters began to put out the fire. It took about 20 to 30 minutes to extinguish the fire, he said.

Responders included firefighters and crews from: Cicero, South Bay, North Syracuse, Brewerton, Bridgeport, Clay, Mattydale, Liverpool, NAVAC and Brewerton Ambulance.
