Clay, N.Y. ― The driver of a vehicle who fled from police after stealing merchandise from the Kohl’s store in Clay is now facing numerous charges, police said.
Kenyada Rowser, 31, Syracuse, turned herself into the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, said Thomas Newton, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.
Rowser was among a group of six women and girls who deputies said loaded shopping carts with merchandise and left Kohl’s at 3827 State Route 31 in Clay at 8:45 p.m. Dec. 11, deputies said. They drove off in a stolen white 2014 BMW SUV, Newton said.
A deputy spotted the car on Interstate 481 South and tried to stop it, but it kept going, Newton said. The driver then hit another car and became disabled, about 14 miles from Kohl’s.
Rowser got out of the car and ran away, deputies said.
Her five passengers were arrested, including Janiyah Savage-Hope, 18, of Syracuse; Neveah Gunn, 19, of Syracuse; and Nataisa Bownes, 21, of Syracuse; and two girls, ages 15 and 17, Newton said.
All five were charged with third-degree grand larceny, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle without owner consent and fifth-degree conspiracy.
