Richard Simmons disavows biopic

Richard Simmons is speaking out against an upcoming biopic starring Pauly Shore as the “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” fitness guru. “I have never given my permission for this movie,” Simmons said in a rare statement since withdrawing from public life several years ago. The film was announced Wednesday by Shore, who also played Simmons in an unrelated short, “The Court Jester,” that will premiere at the Sundance film festival this weekend. Simmons, 75, wrote on Facebook that he is disavowing the new project and has no plans to return to the spotlight: “I no longer have a manager, and I no longer have a publicist. I just try to live a quiet life and be peaceful. Thank you for all your love and support. Richard.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers movie in works

Billboard reports a Red hot Chili Peppers movie is in the works after Universal Pictures optioned the rights to singer Anthony Kiedis’ 2004 memoir, “Scar Tissue.” The book details Kiedis’ life, including his work with RHCP, struggles with addiction and “a deeply unconventional father & son story set against a substance-fueled 70s & 80s LA punk scene.” The project will be produced by Brian Grazer for Imagine Entertainment along with Kiedies and his manager, Guy Oseary. A cast and director have not been announced, but the Rock and Roll Hall of Game group’s members includes bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith and guitarist John Frusciante.
